I think there should be a third option, “However you like as long as there are no specific rules on the subject in your jurisdiction”
There is no right or wrong way, but, tradition has it that the points of the compasses are out if you have illuminated someone.
It is considered a signet ring or a stamp for a wax seal,
So the compasses would be out as to apear to be standing upright.
have a good turkey day!

I think maybe the best way to wear a Masonic ring would be on the finger…………..Look in your constitution for the answer. Silence and Caution
I’ve been told you wear it as the first time you saw the S & C.
It should be worn as you last saw them at the alter. Toward the knuckle unless you served as master then toward the finger tip. Although this is seldom followed.
Its worn as you saw it when you took your oath
IT SHOULD BE WARN WITH THE POINTS OF THE COMPASS TOWARD YOU
“AS THE MOST ESSENTIAL PARTS OF MAN…..” IE THE POINTS REMIND YOU OF YOUR OBLIGATION
