![]() Freemason and President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Those of us in the Anglo-American tradition of Freemasonry are quite proud of our Brethren who have become heads of state, whether by birth or election. American Freemasons have George Washington and the other Masonic presidents and the British, King Edward VII, to claim as one of their own. But in Africa, at least according to this article, the Masonic affiliation of a head of state for any particular country may be less benign. Now, I don’t vouch for the accuracy of the claims of this article — I just find it interesting that Masonic cronyism reaching the upper levels of government has been raised as a substantial political issue in a couple African countries. And by raised as an issue, I don’t mean idle speculation of the conspiracy set. So with that caveat, it is a least something to think about. I’d welcome comments from our African Brethren, or anyone else, for some illumination on the topic. ![]() International Masonic Brotherhood I’m delighted to announce that Masonic Regalia is now available in fifty languages thanks to some amazing translation software available from Wordpress, the blogging platform I use here. While I’ve known for some time that this page enjoys a wide international audience, I’ve recently discovered that many of my visitors are relying on Google to translate the pages they wish to see. It occurred to me that if my pages were already translated when indexed by Google, the site might get an even larger international Masonic readership because the translated version would appear in the non-English search results rather than in English to be translated by the reader before browsing. What is so cool about the software I chose to translate the Masonic material here is that once it has been translated, the software creates a whole new page with the translation as part of the site’s permanent sitemap. Thus Google can index and cache all of the translated material as well as the native English version. Aside from my nerdy enjoyment of great traffic to this site, I’m especially delighted with this development as I think it promotes one of the great aims of Freemasonry: reconciling true friendship from those who must have remained at perpetual distance.

Fleming-Taylor, Grandmaster, Order of Women Freemasons Although women are well represented within the overall body of Freemasonry thanks to Masonic groups such as Eastern Star, they have not been allowed to become actual Freemasons. This prohibition has not, however, stopped women over the years from taking up the trowel and forming their own Masonic-like Craft lodges. These organizations are traditionally not recognized by “mainstream” Freemasonry as practices by regular grand lodges worldwide. ![]() Woman In Masonic Apron ![]() Women In Masonic Regalia

The sprig of acacia appears prominently on much Masonic art, Masonic regalia and Masonic jewelry. Traditionally it represents a hope in the afterlife. But why acacia and not some other plant? While the exact origins of this symbol are probably lost in antiquity, there are several intriguing observations that one can make about the plant. First, the acacia is prominent in the mythology of the ancient Middle East. In ancient Egypt, for example, acacia was associated with the death and resurrection of the Egyptian god Osiris.
According to the myth, Set, the evil brother of Osiris, created a beautiful wooden box and offered it as a gift to whomever best fit inside. Thus enticed, Osiris climbed into the box and Set quickly nailed him in. Set then threw the box into a river. The box later washed ashore at the foot of an acacia tree that in time grew around the box, completely encasing it. Eventually the tree was harvested and used as a support column for a palace, where Isis, wife of Osiris, discovered it. She cut open the acacia, released the body of Osiris and, using magic, brought him back to life.
Acacia was also significant to the ancient Israelites. Many scholars believe that the burning bush that Moses encountered was an acacia plant. Further, the the Ark of the Covenant was made from acacia wood. Finally, and most interestingly for Freemasons, the ancient Israelites often used an acacia bush to mark graves. The fact that acacia was prominent in the ancient Middle East, however, fails to answer the question of why it is significant to Freemasonry; it merely pushes the question back a step. That is, why was acacia associated with magic and gods in ancient times? This question brings us to the second intriguing observation about acacia: Several species of acacia contain a powerful hallucinogenic compound called DMT. This very same hallucinogen has been used in shamanistic rituals world wide to achieve a trance like state in which communication with the gods was thought possible. Perhaps this is just a coincidence, but it is thought provoking, nonetheless. Check out this Masonic shirt sporting Master Mason symbols, including acacia, here. LONDON–In a surprise announcement today, the World Grand Masonic Lodge acknowledged that it is, in fact, a shadow world government whose authority covers every of facet of human activity, from international politics, world commerce and space exploration to fast food menus and American Idol. “We chose today to make the announcement,” Sir Hiram Wayfarer, the Grandmaster of Earth, said in a brief statement, “to coincide with the 5,000th anniversary of the completion of the great pyramids of Giza, the event that marked the beginning of the true World Masonic Government.” An anonymous source close to the Grandmaster added, however, that the timing of the announcement was more likely due to the fact that an underground group of conspiracy theorists calling themselves “The Ruffians” were poised to reveal several potentially dangerous secrets, including the existence of the World Masonic Government, or WMG, as it is known by insiders. “The problem was not so much with them exposing the WMG — that’s been an open secret since Napoleon’s day. What prompted the Grand Lodge to act was that these guys were going to allege a connection between us and an alien race of reptilian overlords. I mean really crazy stuff. We had to get out in front of this story.” When asked if there were indeed reptilian overlords present on earth, the anonymous source declined further comment.
